Our son decided that he no longer liked the green paint in his “baby” room and asked us to give him a “big boy” makeover. We gave him the opportunity to choose his own bedroom color and he chose a VERY dark blue. Knowing that the dark blue would make his tiny room feel like a cave, I decided to give his room a striped treatment. I started with a light blue base color and incorporated the dark blue paint color into a series of stripes running along three walls. The stripes were a graduated progression of dark blue to very light blue with a narrow bright green stripe to break them up. The result was wonderful! Our son was very pleased and proud of himself for his good color choice.
TIP #2 – KIDS RULE! - WHEN PAINTING YOUR OLDER CHILD’S ROOM, MAKE SURE TO ASK THEM WHAT COLOR THEY WOULD LIKE. IF THE COLOR THEY CHOOSE IS NOT SUITABLE TO PAINT A WHOLE ROOM IN, CONSIDER PAINTING AN ACCENT WALL OR ADDING A FEW SMALL STRIPES IN THEIR COLOR. THIS WILL GIVE THEM A SENSE OF OWNERSHIP OVER THE DESIGN PROCESS, AND THEY WILL BE MUCH MORE EXCITED ABOUT THE FINAL RESULTS.
